The 2018 Toyota Camry-Dependable, Efficient, And More Alluring Than Ever

After thirty-five years on the market, the all-new 2018 Toyota Camry remains practically ubiquitous with long-term dependability, comfort, and value. But in recent years, this star mid-size sedan has injected more evocative energy and fun into its driving experience. This year, the Camry is new from the ground up and boasts the most daring exterior styling yet, as well as some fantastic driving dynamics and efficiency figures. But beneath all the changes, it's still the Camry you love.

The 2018 Camry is a clean-sheet design that manages to seem at once familiar while totally new. Handsome body creases, a tapered roof, and lower chassis height give the car a sportier air than ever before, while higher trims boast unique cues that really pop. Even the "Camry" font on the rear deck lid is new. Yet it isn't all about this sedan's new athletic attitude. A 30-percent increase in chassis rigidity, and lower center of gravity both bring exciting function to the Camry's form.

Those familiar with Camry interiors can probably rattle off its essential qualities by memory: comfort, space, storage, and easy-to-use tech. That hasn't changed, but you might wonder for a moment if you've mistakenly gotten into a more expensive car when you slide behind the 2018 sedan's wheel. A 7-inch Entune interface is standard on all models, as is a USB port, and you'll find little to quibble with for material quality-especially on higher trims, where leather upholstery becomes available.

The only similarity between the 2017 and 2018 Camry is that they both offer three powertrains, but the latest model's are all-new. The base engine is a 2.5-liter inline-four with 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, and an EPA estimated 29 mpg city/41 mpg highway in L trim, and 28 mpg city/39 mpg highway on the LE, SE, XLE, and XSE. The latter two trims also can be had with a 3.5-liter V6 with 301 horsepower/267 lb-ft of torque, 22 mpg city/33 mpg highway. Both of those engines offer competitive or class-leading power and efficiency, but the best fuel-sipping comes from the 208 horsepower Camry Hybrid, with Prius-level 51 mpg city/53 mpg highway, or 44 mpg city/47 mpg highway.

The Camry has always shown value through features, and that's another quality that hasn't changed. Standard on the base L are a rear-view camera, 7-inch Entune display, Bluetooth, a USB port, and Toyota Safety Sense Plus-a safety package that brings dynamic radar cruise control, lane-keeping assist, emergency braking, and pedestrian detection. Higher trims get power seats, 60/40 split folding rear seats, paddle shifters, and sport-tuned suspension, to name a few. On the most loaded version, leather seating, JBL premium audio, 360-degree camera, wireless charging, and a panoramic glass moon roof can all be had.
